Matt J. Poelmans

Director e-Citizen Programme, ICTU, The Netherlands

Matt J. Poelmans is Director of the Dutch e-Citizen Programme which aims at improving eGovernment by empowerment of citizens. Untill 2004 he was Manager of the eGovernment Center of Competence. Both programmes are run by ICTU, the ICT implementation organisation for the public sector, founded by the Ministry of the Interior. Previously, he was in charge of the One-Stop-Service delivery programme (OL2000).

Poelmans studied business administration at Nyenrode Business School and graduated in political science at the University of Amsterdam. He was active in local politics as a Councillor and was Deputy Major in the town of Oegstgeest near Leyden, where he was responsable for finance, information policy and local government reform. Moreover Poelmans has been Vice President of the Dutch Liberal Democrat political party (D66) and a Member of the Provincial Council of South Holland. At present he is Vice Chairman of the Dutch Web Accessibility Foundation.

Before entering politics he worked with the SER (Social-Economic Council) and the Ministery of the Interior (BZK).
